Ezulwini – Minister of Sport, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima says Eswatini must change its approach towards Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by treating it as a primary career path for young people.
Nzima was speaking during the commemoration of World Youth Skills Day 2025, which took place on Monday under the national theme, “Repositioning TVET as a First Choice for Youth.”
The minister told attendees that the country needs to change the mindset that treats vocational training as a backup option, saying it should be recognised as a gateway to innovation, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
He said nations that have embraced TVET as part of their core development programmes are experiencing lower unemployment rates, greater equality, and improved economic competitiveness.
Nzima said Eswatini risks being left behind if technical education continues to be overlooked, urging government and stakeholders to integrate it into broader skills development and investment plans.
