Gaborone, Botswana – The 1st Africa Biodiversity Summit opened on Friday, bringing together experts, policymakers, and international partners to discuss strategies for protecting the continent’s natural heritage.
Permanent Secretary in Botswana’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Boatametse Modukanele, welcomed delegates and called for translating scientific knowledge into practical policies that benefit communities and ecosystems. The summit aims to foster collaboration on biodiversity monitoring, ecosystem restoration, sustainable financing, and integrating conservation into national development plans.
Participants will explore ways to strengthen continental initiatives that safeguard Africa’s rich biodiversity and promote sustainable development across the region.
