MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders have parted ways with captain Thando Langa and goalkeeper Qiniso Nyawo after the duo reportedly declined to sign new contracts under the club’s new management led by Shaun Mkhize.
The players, who were part of a 34-member squad that left for a pre-season training camp in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on July 20, reportedly rejected the club’s contract offers, seeking higher salaries than those proposed. Sources indicate that most remaining squad members are expected to sign new deals, while some players may still be released and replacements brought in. Current salaries reportedly range from E4,000 to nearly E10,000 for the highest-paid player.
Highlanders Patron Charles Jele confirmed the departures, stating, “We have released the two players, the goalkeeper Qiniso Nyawo and Thando Langa.” Both players were unavailable for comment at the time.
The club, under Coach Ernest Mavuso, is scheduled to face Ezulwini United on Sunday at Mavuso Sports Centre during the 8th-grade Fair Cup triple header. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m., following a 2 p.m. match between Young Buffaloes and Ezulwini Chiefs. The day’s final match will see Manzini Wanderers take on Green Mamba at 6:30 p.m.
Acting Club Spokesperson Charles Jele added that the contract renewal process for other squad members, including Kenneth Moloto, Ndumiso Mabuza, Siwakhile Shongwe, Thando Dube, Vusimuzi Vilakati, and Siphamandla Maseko, is ongoing. Several players have already signed their deals and received Royal AM-branded tracksuits and T-shirts.
Highlanders are expected back in Eswatini tomorrow ahead of a team unveiling ceremony on Friday.
