Mbabane: Eswatini Observer editor Keneth Dlamini has passed on due to COVID-19 complications.
The sad news of the passing o the editor broke up on Thursday morning. Dlamini, also known as Mackenza was one of the longest-serving journalists in the country.
Dlamini is said to have succumbed to the virus early this morning at an unnamed hospital. As news of his untimely demise started filtering through, most of his colleagues in the profession were left shuttered and finding it difficult to believe it.
The Swaziland National Association of Journalists (SNAJ) has since issued a condolence statement through the office of Secretary-General Ntombi Mhlongo.
“The Swaziland National Association of Journalists has learned with shock and sadness the passing on of one of our media leaders, Editor Kenneth Dlamini. Dlamini was an inspiration in the field of journalism and we had hoped to learn more from him. However, we find solace in that in the years we have worked with him, he has been an exemplary leader who we looked up to,” reads the statement in part.
We will always remember Dlamini’s professionalism in the newsroom as he climbed the ladder from being a sports reporter and eventually news editor.
“Our deepest condolences go out to his wife, family, friends, colleagues, and the whole media fraternity at this difficult time. Rest in peace Mlangeni,” she stated.
Dlamini started his career at the Times of Eswatini during his early days in the profession as a sports reporter before he joined the Observer in the sports department, where he was later an editor. He was then deployed to being News Editor, a position he held before his ultimate death.
