Kwaluseni – The University of Eswatini (UNESWA) has scooped the 2025 Enactus National Championship, with students from Mbabane and Luyengo campuses walking away with top honours.
The victory was marked on Thursday, 18 September, when the students presented their trophies to the Vice Chancellor at Kwaluseni. The teams were crowned champions on 1 August at the George Hotel in Manzini, after competing against other universities in the country. Their projects earned them recognition as the “Best university in terms of performance in Enactus.”
The Luyengo campus team, led by Dr Murye A.F., impressed judges with the Nutri-Plume Project, which turns waste chicken feathers into organic fertilizer. The initiative, now operating as Nutri-Plume Eco-Solutions Pty Ltd, has secured funding and a warehouse and is planning to expand into feather-stuffed clothing and pillows. The team also collected the Team of the Year, CEO of the Year and Institution of the Year awards.
The Mbabane campus presented the Lulama Chat project, a digital platform that connects patients to professional counsellors and therapists. By charging E50 for a one-hour session, the innovation aims to make mental health care more affordable and accessible. The project earned the team the Innovator of the Year award and also saw them win MTN’s Makoya Tech Innovator of the Year prize.
Following the national triumph, UNESWA will represent Eswatini at the Enactus World Cup, which takes place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 25 to 28 September 2025.
