DAR ES SALAAM – Commissioner General of Correctional Services LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini is currently in Tanzania representing Eswatini at the Annual Regional Conference for Heads of Correctional and Prison Services under the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The conference, which began on 28 May and ends on 30 May 2025, is being held in Dar es Salaam. It brings together top correctional officials from over 15 SADC member states, including Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique.
This year’s gathering is taking place under the theme “Intelligence Gathering for Early Warning: The Role of Corrections/Prisons in the SADC Peace and Security Architecture.” Discussions are centred on the strategic role that correctional institutions can play in regional peace and security beyond simply housing inmates.
Participants are examining how prisons can serve as critical sources of intelligence, aiding in crime prevention and the dismantling of organised criminal networks. Delegates are also looking into how correctional systems across the region are contributing to public safety by reducing reoffending through more coordinated and intelligence-driven interventions.
Another key item on the agenda is the review of progress made under the Corrections/Prisons Strategic Action Plan 2021–2025. The forum is providing an opportunity for member states to reflect on their achievements, share challenges, and explore ways to respond to emerging threats in the region.
Commissioner General Dlamini is accompanied by Chief Officer Sikhumnuzo Dlamini from the department of Monitoring and Evaluation.
