The brewing of alcoholic beverages, even traditional brew like umcombotsi and the likes has been stopped by the government of Eswatini.
According to Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Senator Manqoba Khumalo, alcohol has been identified as high risk in the continued fight against the deadly coronavirus.
Khumalo made the announcement at cabinet offices today April 15,2020 immediately after Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini announced a three-week extension on the current partial lockdown meant to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Bottle Stores will remain open and finish off their respective stock.
Alcohol and traditional brew (umcombotsi etc) alongside barber shops and salons, massagers, night clubs, discos and cinemas are among businesses classified as high risk by the minister.
“Services where touching cannot be avoided will remain closed,” he said.
On the positive for small and medium enterprises, Khumalo named a list that can start operations to add on those classified as essential in the initial lockdown three weeks ago.
Among those businesses that can operate are construction, vendors, hawkers and the manufacturing industry. These enterprises are expected to comply with the COVID-19 regulations that include social distancing, sanitizing hands and surfaces among others hygiene procedures.
