MANZINI – It was a black-and-white nightmare for Mbabane Swallows as Mbabane Highlanders AM FC produced a ruthless derby masterclass, hammering their bitter rivals 4-0 yesterday to storm into the semi-finals of the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup.
The highly anticipated Mbabane derby turned into a one-sided affair as Highlanders tore Swallows apart, scoring four unanswered goals in a performance that will live long in the memory of the black-and-white faithful.
From the first whistle, Highlanders looked hungrier, sharper and more determined, taking control of the contest and refusing to allow Swallows any opportunity to settle into the match.
Swallows, who had hoped to emerge victorious in the city rivalry, found themselves overwhelmed by the Highlanders attack and unable to contain the pressure.
The final blow came through South African striker Nkosivumile Zulu, who found the back of the net for Highlanders’ fourth goal to put the result beyond any doubt.
As Zulu celebrated, the Highlanders supporters erupted, knowing their team had not only secured a place in the last four but had also delivered one of the most emphatic derby victories in recent years.
The 4-0 scoreline sent a powerful message to the remaining teams in the competition that Highlanders AM FC are serious contenders for the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup crown.
The victory sets up an intriguing semi-final showdown against Young Buffaloes on Saturday.
Highlanders will now be hoping to carry the same intensity and attacking confidence into the semi-final as they chase a place in the final.
For Swallows, however, the defeat represents a bitter end to their Trade Fair Cup campaign, with the derby humiliation leaving them with plenty to reflect on.
But for the Highlanders faithful, yesterday belonged entirely to the black-and-white army – a night when their team ruled the capital and turned the Mbabane derby into a celebration of dominance.
