Mbabane Highlanders AM have been left searching for a new head coach after South African tactician Floyd Mogale resigned from his position yesterday, bringing his brief spell at the club to an abrupt end after just four matches in charge.
Mogale’s departure follows Highlanders’ 1-0 defeat to Nsingizini Hotspurs on Saturday, a result that appears to have marked the end of his tenure at the black-and-white outfit.
The South African coach had spent approximately three months at the helm but managed only one victory, one draw and two defeats in his four league matches, leaving the club languishing in 10th position on the MTN Premier League table.
Highlanders’ general manager Richard Makhoba confirmed the coach’s departure, admitting that the working relationship had failed to produce the desired results.
“It did not work out,” Makhoba said.
Mogale’s resignation comes at a difficult time for the Mbabane giants, who will now have to move quickly to identify a replacement as they seek to revive their campaign and restore confidence within the squad.
Reports indicate that the departing coach had expressed concerns about the team’s basic footballing standards, reportedly telling players that the squad “lacked basics” before returning to South Africa.
His departure raises questions about the club’s early-season performances and the direction of the team under its next technical leadership.
With only four matches played under Mogale, Highlanders will be hoping that a change in the technical department can help them turn their fortunes around before the gap between themselves and the leading teams widens further.
The club is now expected to begin the search for a new coach, with the immediate challenge being to stabilise the squad and improve results in the coming fixtures.
For Highlanders supporters, Mogale’s sudden exit is another setback in a season in which expectations remain high. The club will need a swift and decisive response if it is to get its campaign back on track.
