Eswatini’s influence in African sport continues to grow after two of the country’s leading sports administrators secured prestigious appointments to key continental commissions.
The Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) has congratulated its President, Adam Mthethwa, and Chief Executive Officer, Maxwell Jele, following their appointments to strategic positions within African sports structures.
Mthethwa has been appointed to the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa Finance Commission for the 2025-2028 quadrennial. The commission is responsible for promoting sound financial governance and providing strategic financial oversight within the continental Olympic body.
Jele, meanwhile, has secured two significant appointments. He will serve on the ANOCA Marketing and Communications Commission for the 2025-2028 quadrennial, while also joining the High Performance Commission of the African Union Sports Council Region 5 following his appointment by the Region 5 Board of Advisors for a two-year term.
The appointments are being viewed as a major boost for Eswatini’s sporting profile, reflecting growing confidence in the country’s leadership and contribution to the development of sport across Africa.
EOCGA said the appointments were a testament to the expertise, commitment and professionalism demonstrated by the two administrators, adding that their selection highlighted Eswatini’s increasing prominence within the African Olympic and sports movement.
The association expressed confidence that Mthethwa and Jele would play important roles in advancing good governance, strategic communication, athlete development and high-performance sport across the continent.
The appointments also place Eswatini at the centre of key discussions shaping the future of African sport, giving the country a stronger voice in matters ranging from financial management and marketing to elite athlete performance.
EOCGA wished both officials success in their new roles as they continue to represent the Kingdom on the continental stage and contribute to the growth of sport in Africa.
