Mbabane: Hilton Gardens Inn has taken lead in adapting the latest technology as it gears up after opening of the industry. This is the first of its kind and Hilton Garden Inn is the first hotel in Eswatini to use the Aura Proximity device.

The Aura Proximity device is set to deal with the social distance especially in protecting the frontline workers.

The new technology was unveiled on Friday September 25, 2020 during an event that was graced by the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Moses Vilakati, the Minister of Public Service, Christian Ntshangase, top executives from Hilton Garden, Eswatini Tourism Authority as well as Hotels Association of Eswatini.

Speaking during the launch, Vilakati said Eswatini is one of the first countries in Africa to adopt the technology. He said this will place Eswatini on the map, while bringing confidence to tourists, making the country a safe destination. “The device is one of the first of its kind in the continent and in the kingdom of Eswatini,” Vilakati said.

The device was developed by Aura, a technology company based in Netherlands and in collaboration with the Ning Group in Eswatini. According to the Aura representative who is also the Director of Ning Group, the device is used to protect the frontline workers especially those in till points, serving points and entrances.

The aura device detects if someone is very close to the proximity of the service point thus protecting frontline workers by ensuring clients ensure they maintain social distance. The device can work with Bluetooth connection and it also uses an app where it can be connected to detect the permissible distance.

Aura representative said the device was engineered in a way that it alerts a person when they are beyond the acceptable distance to the frontline or service worker. “The device will blink red lights when someone gets close to an unacceptable point”, he said
