Mbabane – The Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture has distanced itself from a circulating social media poster promoting an event titled “Eswatini Golden Maganu Fiesta,” allegedly scheduled for Hlane Royal Residence.
According to the council, the poster is false and was not authorised or approved by the national arts body. ENCAC stated there are no plans, confirmations or records of any event under that name taking place at Hlane Royal Residence or anywhere in Eswatini.
The warning follows the rapid spread of the advert online, which officials say could mislead the public into believing a major cultural celebration is imminent.
“The integrity of our cultural heritage is of utmost importance,” the council stated, reaffirming its commitment to promoting authentic, well coordinated cultural events that reflect the traditions and values of the kingdom.
ENCAC also raised concern about the growing misuse of social media to circulate unverified information, rumours and fabricated announcements. Officials believe the poster may have been deliberately created to deceive people and generate false expectations about a cultural gathering.
The council clarified that all official notices regarding festivals and national cultural activities are issued through verified channels, including its official website, recognised social media platforms and direct communication with community leaders and stakeholders.
It further noted that neither the council nor Hlane Royal Residence has issued any invitation, approval or communication concerning the alleged fiesta.
Authorities cautioned that false information can have serious consequences, including confusion among communities and damage to the reputation of legitimate cultural programmes.
Members of the public have been urged to verify event details through official sources before making travel plans or sharing information online.
ENCAC confirmed that the “Eswatini Golden Maganu Fiesta” poster currently circulating is fake and misleading, with no such event scheduled anywhere in the country.
