ADDIS ABABA, 13 February 2026 – H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, called on African businesses to play a central role in realizing the continent’s Agenda 2063 during a High-Level Dialogue on “The role of the private sector in realizing Africa’s Agenda 2063” held on the sidelines of the 39th AU Assembly.

Speaking to government leaders, business representatives, and AU officials, Youssouf said Africa must move beyond exporting raw materials while importing value-added goods. “With 1.4 billion people, 30 percent of the world’s critical minerals, and the AfCFTA as a foundation, the continent has the assets to industrialize, integrate, and lead,” he said.

He stressed that government policy alone is insufficient, noting that “Industrialization, energy transition, digital innovation, and value chain development require full private sector partnership.”

Youssouf assured participants that the AU would strengthen regulatory coherence, reduce non-tariff barriers, and introduce a Permanent Presidential Mechanism to facilitate strategic dialogue with African business with a focus on tangible results.
