COVID-19: 73 new cases, recovery rate now at 49%

Mbabane: 73 more coronavirus cases have been reported in the last 24 hour cycle, bringing the cumulative number of infections in Eswatini to 3 309 since the virus was detected locally in March.

The health ministry on Monday reported three (3) more new COVID-19 related deaths, which brought that total up to 61. Death number 59 was of an 81 year old man from Manzini Region, died on August 10 after being in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from July 13, having been confirmed COVID-19 positive.

Death number 60 was a 52 year old woman from Manzini Region died on August 5 at one of the country’s health facilities, while undergoing treatment for COVID-19 related disease and had been under care for two days. Death number 61 was a 49 year old woman from Hhohho Region, died while undergoing treatment as a COVID-19 suspect, two days after admission into the health facility.

The number of recoveries currently stands at 1 634, which translates to a recovery rate of around 49 percent as of Monday, August 10. The number of active cases, still undergoing treatment stands at 1 541.

According to the ministry, Manzini Region has recorded the highest number of cases standing at 1 503 followed by Hhohho Region with 1 337 cases. Shiselweni and Lubombo Regions have recorded 233 and 236 cases respectively.

According to Global Data statistics, Eswatini has conducted 27 837 tests as of August 10.

World Health Organization has reported that the World has surpassed 20 million recorded cases of infection from the tiny killer that has upended life just about everywhere. The number as of Monday 2215 GMT was 20 002 577 cases, with 733 842 deaths recorded, according to AFP tally official sources.
