Lobamba: Former Deputy President in the House of Assembly, Mpendulo Ngomuyayona Gamedze asserted that of all the senate hopefuls for the replacement of the late senator, Mike Temple, he would have been the most qualified.
Gamedze withdrew from the race at nomination stage after he alleged that some members of parliament solicited money from him in return for their vote. He asserted that he was the most experienced of all the incumbent parliamentarians and had it not been for the corruptible practices in the August House he would be singled out to replace the late senator Mike Temple.
Gamedze said he hated most intensely the parliamentarians’ tendency to ask money from senate hopefuls before they can be voted into the senate house, adding that he would never stoop so low as to buy votes.
Gamedze said it was sad that Parliament was infested with a corruptible lot and wondered where the country was headed to, adding that His Majesty the King should be worried about what is reported in the papers. He said the king was the ultimate custodian of both houses of parliament and has entrusted responsibilities to members.
Gamedze said he would not be surprised if His Majesty called the concerned parliamentarians to account for taking bribery money.
Gamedze said it might help to know that parliament is a public office and should discourage corruptible practices like taking bribes. He declined to name the parliamentarians who asked for his money, saying not all the MPs asked for his money.
