Buhleni, Mkhuzweni, and surrounding communities have been left devastated after a powerful hailstorm struck the area earlier this week, destroying homes, crops, livestock, businesses, and public facilities. The storm has caused widespread shock and grief among residents, with Buhleni town bearing the brunt of the damage.
Member of Parliament Hon. S. P. Dlamini visited the hardest-hit areas, including Buhleni, Mkhuzweni, Fontotje, Gija, Matfuntini, Herefords High, and parts of Lugongodlwane Nazarene Primary School. Dlamini reported that Mkhuzweni Health Centre was completely destroyed during the storm, a development he described as a critical concern for the wellbeing of the community’s most vulnerable members.
“The destruction of Mkhuzweni Health Centre puts the most vulnerable at greater risk. We must act swiftly to restore medical services,” Dlamini said. He expressed deep sympathy for families who lost their homes, businesses, crops, livestock, and personal possessions, acknowledging the emotional and economic impact of the disaster.

Dlamini has engaged with the Ministry of Health, disaster management authorities, and other government departments to coordinate urgent relief. Immediate measures include deploying emergency medical teams and ambulances, establishing temporary health services through mobile clinics or tents, and conducting rapid damage assessments in Buhleni, Mkhuzweni, Fontotje, and Gija to prioritise relief.
The MP also pledged to work with national and local relief agencies to provide shelter, food, water, and other essentials to displaced families. Residents are urged to report urgent medical needs or missing persons to Inkhundla Council members or local authorities so emergency response can be coordinated effectively.

“Every neighbour should look out for one another. Check on the elderly, assist where you can, and bring anyone in need to local leaders,” Dlamini said, calling for community solidarity as families grapple with loss and displacement.
Dlamini shared passages from the Bible to offer comfort, including Psalm 34:18, Isaiah 41:10, Joel 2:25, and Psalm 46:1, encouraging residents to find strength and hope amid the tragedy.
