Johannesburg – South African singer Tyla’s single “Chanel” has jumped from number 177 to number 38 on the Spotify Top Songs global chart, reaching 31.93 million streams since its release on October 24. The track has overtaken her earlier hit “Water” and surpassed other releases like “Push 2 Start” during the same early streaming period.
“Chanel” continues to gain momentum, pulling in over 2 million streams daily. The song initially received mixed reactions online but has managed to turn controversy into attention. Just days before its release, American rapper Yung Miami accused Tyla of stealing her song idea, yet the track’s popularity has remained unaffected.
A large part of the song’s success comes from TikTok, where Tyla’s dance challenge has inspired over 3 million videos in under a month. The song has also gained unexpected traction in Asia and the Middle East, with K-pop star Seulgi and American singer Ciara participating in the challenge and helping introduce the track to new audiences.
Tyla’s rise has mirrored the song’s success. She recently surpassed 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify and now ranks number 184 globally, making her one of Africa’s most-streamed artists on the platform.
