Mbabane – Khuluma Eswatini has formalised a partnership with Southern Africa Nazarene University through a new Memorandum of Understanding aimed at equipping tertiary students with practical skills for the workplace. The collaboration seeks to address the growing gap between academic learning and industry expectations in Eswatini.
Mandla Luphondvo, Director of Khuluma Eswatini, told media and seminar partners at the signing ceremony that modern recruitment practices have evolved beyond traditional interviews. Employers increasingly prioritise candidates who can apply theoretical knowledge to real-life scenarios, often through case studies and problem-solving assessments.
“In the past, interviews were straightforward and aligned with academic content, particularly in fields like media. However, what we are seeing today is a shift. Interviews are becoming case study-based, meaning employers want evidence of applied knowledge rather than memorised concepts,” Luphondvo said.
He added that aptitude, adaptability, and analytical skills are now key determinants in hiring decisions. Practical scenarios are being used to evaluate how prospective employees think, solve problems, and respond to real-life challenges.
SANU Chancellor Faith Mlotsa-Mngomezulu welcomed the agreement, noting that a significant number of graduates remain unemployed. She said the partnership would help students transition from academic settings into productive economic roles and equip them to become job creators.
The collaboration will see joint programmes on CV development, interview preparation, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to industry-relevant skills. As part of the initiative, Khuluma Eswatini and SANU will host the GradConnect and Business Seminar this Friday at the SANU Faculty of Education Lecture Theatre from 0900 to 1330 hours. The event will include CV writing workshops, interview simulations, and sessions with industry experts including Tammy Dlamini, CEO of Eswatini National Agricultural Union, Mluleki Dlamini, Director of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, and influencer Zindzi Thwala. Tickets are E50 and available through MojaTicket.
