Mbabane – Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, met with World Vision Eswatini’s National Director, Amos Zaindi, to explore ways of strengthening community empowerment and economic development.
During the meeting, Zaindi praised the government’s role in shaping the national development agenda and called for the revival of the National Handcraft Training Centre. He noted that World Vision has previously assisted graduates with startup kits, enabling them to launch small businesses in their communities. Zaindi also stressed the need for entrepreneurship training to create traceable, sustainable enterprises.
Minister Khumalo responded by noting the government’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurial initiatives through the NHTC. He said vocational training provides a more viable path for employment as traditional job models shift. The minister also touched on refugee management programs, underlining the importance of linking refugees to economic opportunities.
Khumalo further discussed efforts to promote sustainability and decentralization by developing factory shells and cooperatives in various regions. He acknowledged the need for better program coordination to avoid duplication and improve overall impact.
