NKOMIYAHLABA – Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla today led a multi-sectoral government delegation to Eni and Sigombeni in Nkomiyahlaba Inkhundla to hand over newly built homes to vulnerable families, an initiative facilitated by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).
At Eni, a child-headed household led by Thubalethu Dlamini and his siblings received a new home, providing them with safety and stability. At Sigombeni, Mkhulu Jadvu Dlamini and his partner were given a two-roomed house to replace their old, severely compromised stick-and-mud dwelling, giving them comfort, dignity, and renewed hope.
In Ntondozi under Makhungutsha, Cebisile Hlophe and her family received a new home after their previous house on a farm collapsed during heavy rains, forcing them to temporarily seek refuge at their grandmother’s homestead. The land for the new dwelling was generously provided by the area’s Chief. The family’s mother, who had previously left to seek work in difficult circumstances, has now returned permanently to stay with her children.
Beyond housing, the Deputy Prime Minister’s office, in collaboration with the Forestry Department under the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs and the TAV initiative, provided guidance on growing traditional vegetables. Beneficiaries were taught how to cultivate nutrient-rich crops, including leafy greens and herbs, that are high in potassium, magnesium, fiber, and antioxidants. These foods help regulate blood pressure, improve blood flow by relaxing blood vessels, and support muscle and nerve function, promoting long-term health and self-reliance for the families.
