MBABANE – The Swazi MTN Premier League continued over the weekend with exciting Round 2 fixtures that produced goals, drama, and early statements of intent from the league’s big guns.
Mbabane Highlanders, Young Buffaloes, and Mbabane Swallows all claimed important wins to maintain early momentum in the 2025/26 campaign. Highlanders displayed composure and experience as they brushed aside Manzini Sea Birds 2–0 on Saturday. The capital giants controlled much of the game, with their clinical finishing proving the difference against a youthful Sea Birds side still finding its rhythm.
In another tightly contested fixture, Mbabane Swallows edged Tabankulu 2–1. The “Beautiful Birds” delighted their supporters with an attacking display, though Tabankulu made them work hard for the points. Swallows’ victory keeps them within touching distance of the league leaders.
Young Buffaloes, meanwhile, continued their strong start with a convincing 2–0 win over Moneni Pirates.
The army side looked solid both defensively and in attack, reminding everyone why they remain perennial title contenders. Elsewhere, Amawele won a five-goal thriller, edging Rangers FC 3–2 in one of the weekend’s most entertaining matches.
Both sides went all out for victory, but Amawele’s resilience in the dying minutes earned them full points. Manzini Wanderers and Malanti Chiefs shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw—a fair reflection of a balanced encounter where both sides showed flashes of promise but lacked the finishing touch. Rounding off the weekend’s action, newly promoted Ubombo Sugar continued their impressive form with a 2–1 victory over Sisonkhe.
The sweet makers have now sent a strong signal that they won’t be pushovers in the topflight. With two rounds played, the title race is already shaping up intriguingly, with the traditional powerhouses asserting dominance while newcomers make their mark early on.
