Liverpool have secured the signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, sealing the move on deadline day after the player completed his medical at the AXA Training Centre.
The 25 year old forward penned a long term deal with the Premier League champions and will wear the number nine shirt. Speaking shortly after signing, Isak said joining Liverpool was a proud moment in his career and that he was eager to meet his new teammates and supporters.
Isak arrives at Anfield after three successful seasons at Newcastle, where he scored 62 goals in 109 appearances. In the Premier League alone, he netted 54 times in 86 matches, finishing last season as the second highest scorer with 23 goals, behind Mohamed Salah who is now his teammate.
The Stockholm born striker began his professional career with AIK in Sweden before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2017. He later enjoyed a breakthrough at Real Sociedad in Spain, where he won the 2019-20 Copa del Rey after finishing as the competition’s top scorer.
At international level, Isak has represented Sweden 52 times and scored 16 goals. He has set his sights on winning silverware with Liverpool, insisting that beyond scoring goals he is determined to contribute in every way possible to the team’s success.
