Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga will host the MTN8 final on 13 September, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed. The showdown will see defending champions Orlando Pirates face Stellenbosch FC, replicating last season’s final clash.
Last year, Pirates claimed a 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch, with Monnapule Saleng, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Relebohile Mofokeng on the scoresheet. That win secured Pirates’ third consecutive MTN8 title, a first in PSL history, under Spanish coach Jose Riveiro, who has since left for Al Ahly.
Now managed by Abdeslam Ouaddou, Pirates aim to extend their dominance by winning a fourth straight MTN8 and increasing their total tally in the competition to 14 titles. The Buccaneers reached this year’s final after defeating Polokwane City 2-0 in the quarterfinals and overcoming Mamelodi Sundowns 4-1 on penalties following a 2-2 aggregate in the semi-finals.
Stellenbosch booked their place in the final with a 3-2 victory over AmaZulu in the opening round and a 3-1 win against Sekhukhune United in the semi-finals.
