LOBAMBA – The Ezulwini Town Council has donated new firefighting equipment to the Eswatini National Fire and Rescue Emergency Service, strengthening local emergency response efforts and deepening cooperation between the two institutions.
The handover took place at the Lobamba Fire Station, where the council presented 10 knapsack sprayers and 10 fire beaters to the fire service. The donation is part of a broader plan to improve fire response in Ezulwini and nearby areas.
Speaking during the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Ezulwini Town Council acknowledged the challenges faced by the fire service and said the gesture was meant to help close the resource gap that often undermines fire response efforts. He noted that while criticism of the fire service is common, the public also has a role to play by supporting them with the tools they need.
As part of ongoing efforts to improve emergency coordination, the council plans to recruit community fire marshals and provide the fire service with a detailed map of Ezulwini to allow for faster deployment to incidents.
Chief Fire Officer S.Zulu, who received the equipment, thanked the council for the support and confirmed that fire hydrant inspections around Lobamba had already been completed. He called on other municipalities and institutions to collaborate with the fire service through training programmes and resource-sharing.
The donation follows months of joint initiatives between the Ezulwini Town Council and the fire service. These include testing hydrants across residential and commercial zones, inspecting fire suppression systems in business centres, civic education drives, and ensuring quicker emergency response times.
