MATSAPHA : Police have linked the murder of a 36-year-old kombi driver of Buseleni area to alleged kombi route wars over transport routes.
The victim, who operated on the Manzini–Lomahasha route, was attacked on April 17, 2026 at about 2355 hours at Eteni in Matsapha. Police say he had stopped to drop off a passenger when he was shot four times in the body by an unknown man who then fled the scene. He later succumbed to his injuries on April 21, 2026 while undergoing treatment.
Following investigations, police have arrested a 40-year-old man of KaShewula on April 27, 2026 at about 1700 hours in Manzini City Centre in connection with the murder.
Police say the suspect, who also works in the transport operating industry, was further charged with contravention of the Arms and Ammunition Act after he was found in possession of a Star pistol and one live round of ammunition without a licence or permit.
He was also charged together with a 39-year-old man of Ngudzeni area for the illegal possession of the same Star pistol.
Police state that after the kombi stopped for the passenger to alight, the gunman opened fire, shooting the driver four times before fleeing the scene.
