Manzini- The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, has pledged government support towards the rehabilitation and construction of a key access road linking the Rite Value retail hub to Hillside in Kakhoza.
This transpired durig the official launch of the Right Value Grocer at Sicelwuni, Kakhoza. Khumalo acknowledged the efforts already made by the community, which has raised E86,000 towards the project. He said he would take the matter to Parliament to mobilise additional resources and accelerate the road upgrade.
“This is a clear demonstration of community commitment. Government will come in to complement these efforts and ensure that infrastructure does not become a barrier to development,” he said.
The Member of Parliament for Manzini North, Mashayinkonjane Nhlengetfwa, highlighted the urgency of the intervention, noting that the current condition of the road is a major obstacle to investment and business growth in the peri-urban area.
“The state of the road is not conducive for development. We have investors who are interested in setting up businesses here, but poor access continues to hold them back,” he said.
Nhlengetfwa added that improving the road would not only support existing businesses such as the newly established retail hub but also attract new enterprises and create employment opportunities.
Meanwhile, Khumalo commended the collaborative working relationship between Manzini North leadership, particularly Indvuna Yenkhundla Sibusiso Madlazi and MP Nhlengetfwa. He noted that unity between local leaders plays a critical role in driving development.
“In some areas, you can see and even feel tensions between leaders, but here in Manzini North, the cooperation is commendable and sets a positive example,” said the minister.
The proposed road upgrade is expected to enhance accessibility, support business expansion, and further position Kakhoza as a growing peri-urban economic hub.
