Nairobi – Minister of Education and Training Owen Nxumalo is attending a continental symposium on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Nairobi, Kenya.
The event, hosted by the mEducation Alliance in partnership with the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) and the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD, is focusing on how African countries can enhance the quality of STEM education.
Nxumalo, speaking at the opening of the conference, said African nations must channel more resources into education if they are to move from merely using technology to creating it. He pointed to education investment as a tool for long-term economic transformation.
Themed “STEMtastic Adventures! Africa Symposium,” the gathering has drawn together policymakers, educators and STEM practitioners to collaborate on improving science and technology learning across the continent.
