BHALEKANE – A total of 500 inmates at Bhalekane Correctional Centre received branded T-shirts on Tuesday through a donation from New Gates under the Beyond Success programme.
The initiative, led by Beyond Success Programmes Coordinator Mthobisi Dlamini, is aimed at contributing to the rehabilitation journey of inmates by offering clothing that promotes self-worth and comfort. Speaking at the handover, Dlamini said the donation forms part of their broader goal to encourage personal expression and morale among those incarcerated.
Correctional Centre Officer-in-Charge, Assistant Commissioner Gugulethu Dlamini, welcomed the donation, saying it would go a long way in supporting their work to restore dignity among inmates. She noted that the gesture is not only about providing clothes but also about affirming the humanity of those behind bars.
Deputy Commissioner General for Rehabilitation Programmes, Bongani Khumalo, praised the organisation’s commitment to supporting His Majesty’s Correctional Services. He said the donation represents more than material relief; it is a symbol of encouragement for those working toward reintegration into society.
Speaking on behalf of inmates, Melusi Dlamini thanked Beyond Success for the gesture, describing the donation as a reminder that society has not turned its back on them. He said each shirt symbolised hope and the possibility of redemption.
