Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla handed over four newly built houses to vulnerable families in the Hhohho region on Thursday, bringing relief to residents who had been living in extreme hardship.

In Mpolonjeni under Motshane Inkhundla, 83-year-old Gogo Khumbulile Dlamini received a two-roomed house after her previous stick-and-mud home was destroyed by heavy rains in January. She had been living in a tent provided by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) before the agency facilitated the construction of the new home.

A few kilometres away at Ekupheleni, also under Motshane, another elderly woman, Gogo Florence Dlamini, was given keys to her new house. Her previous home, a fragile structure, was shared with a snake she had grown accustomed to. The house was sponsored by the Wilton Foundation, established by Motshane MP Wilton Nkambule. Government officials also committed to installing a water tank and gutters on the property.

In Luhlangotsini under Piggs Peak Inkhundla, Zandile Motsa and her extended family of seven moved into a newly built home after years of instability following the death of her husband in 2022. The family had been living in a tent before a temporary structure was built by the community. The government has now replaced it with a permanent two-roomed house.

The fourth beneficiary, Tembono Khumalo from Mavula in Mayiwane Inkhundla, had been abandoned by her husband and left in appalling conditions. Her plight was brought to light by Mayiwane MP Sicelo Khungankhosi Dlamini, who escalated the matter to the Deputy Prime Minister.

The handover ceremony was attended by several MPs from the respective Tinkhundla, including Motshane MP Wilton Nkambule, Piggs Peak MP and Speaker of the House Jabulani Mabuza, and Mayiwane MP Sicelo Dlamini.
