Green Mamba’s CAF Confederation Cup journey has come to a painful end after the correctional services side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Angolan giants Primeiro de Agosto, crashing out 4-0 on aggregate.
The defeat brought an end to what had been a hard-fought continental campaign for Green Mamba, who were unable to overturn the deficit from the first leg.
With everything on the line, Green Mamba needed a strong response to keep their CAF dream alive, but Primeiro de Agosto proved too strong, finding the decisive goals to seal a comfortable victory and send the Eswatini side packing.
The 2-0 defeat meant Green Mamba finished the tie four goals behind on aggregate, leaving the team to reflect on a campaign that ultimately ended in disappointment.
For Green Mamba, the result represents a bitter end to their continental ambitions, with the team unable to find the goals needed to mount a comeback.
Primeiro de Agosto, meanwhile, marched on after producing another disciplined performance to complete a convincing aggregate victory.
Green Mamba will now turn their attention back to domestic football, where they will be expected to regroup and use the experience gained from their CAF campaign as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
The continental dream may have been shattered, but the experience of competing on the CAF stage will provide valuable lessons for the correctional services outfit as they look to return stronger in future campaigns.
