Maputo – His Excellency Mr Ntsime Jafeta has formally assumed his diplomatic role as High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the Republic of Mozambique after presenting his Letters of Credence to President Daniel Francisco Chapo.

The ceremony took place on 18 February 2026 at the Presidential Palace in Maputo, officially accrediting Jafeta as Lesotho’s representative to Mozambique. He will serve on a non residential basis from Pretoria in the Republic of South Africa.

Diplomatic relations between Lesotho and Mozambique date back to 1975, shortly after Mozambique attained independence. Over the decades, the two countries have maintained cooperation across bilateral and multilateral platforms, including the Southern African Development Community, the African Union, the United Nations, and the Commonwealth of Nations.

During his remarks, the High Commissioner called for stronger economic ties and deeper strategic partnership across key sectors. Priority areas identified include renewable energy, agriculture, and infrastructure development. Mozambique’s position as a regional energy hub presents opportunities for collaboration in clean energy, while joint efforts in agriculture and infrastructure are expected to support trade expansion and food security through shared technical expertise.
