Former Eswatini National Association of Teachers President (SNAT) and Ngwane National Liberation Congress (NNLC) President, Sibongile Mazibuko

Mbabane: President of the Ngwane National Liberation Congress, Sibongile Mazibuko, mentioned that new senator Jimmy Hlophe rudely denounced the Congress when he was elected into Parliament in 2013 in favour of its major rivals, the Tinkhundla system of governance. Mazibuko said as the NNLC they would not even issue a statement on the election of the new senator.

Hlophe amassed 40 votes of the 31 needed, defeating his contender, Bongani Matsebula who trailed behind by 10 votes. Matsebula amassed 30 votes.

Mazibuko mentioned that the NNLC had made it clear that they would not participate in any Tinkhundla elections, and for Hlophe to enter for the 2013 parliamentary race it was kind of a goad to the Congress. She said at Hlophe’s swearing-in-ceremony in 2013 he made it clear to everyone including the media that he was no longer a member of the proscribed entity.

Said Mazibuko; “He removed himself at the swearing-in-ceremony, denouncing us in public, while everyone sat around big tables and gorging on the delicacies that had been prepared on the day.”
