Munich, Germany – Bayern Munich defeated Chelsea 3-1 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, as Harry Kane scored twice to secure the victory in their Champions League opener.
Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah put the ball into his own net in the 20th minute, giving Bayern an early lead. Kane then converted a penalty in the 27th minute after Moises Caicedo fouled him in the box. Chelsea fought back through Cole Palmer, who scored in the 29th minute on his 100th appearance for the club, pulling the visitors level temporarily.
The decisive moment came in the 63rd minute when Chelsea’s Malo Gusto misplayed a pass, allowing Kane to curl a shot into the net and seal the win. Chelsea had further chances through Michael Olise and Palmer but were unable to capitalize, while Bayern’s experience and composure proved too strong.
The match saw Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer make his 151st Champions League appearance, contrasting with Chelsea’s squad of mostly less experienced players at this level. Chelsea will next host Benfica, with managerial changes expected at Stamford Bridge.
