MANZINI – A 30-year-old woman from Eswatini has shared how a chance encounter with US Army recruiters, who were intrigued by her accent, led her to a life-changing career.
Speaking in a TikTok video, the soldier, Princess Ephraim from Manzini – known online as @princess_purry – explained that her journey into the military began when she caught the attention of recruiters during a conversation, singling out one Aaron Landers for his guidance.
According to Briefly South Africa, they were curious about her background after hearing her distinctive Swati accent and encouraged her to consider joining the army.
She eventually signed up and now works as a Combat Engineer, a role that involves handling explosives and carrying out breaching operations. She revealed that she has developed strong skills in using these tools and even joked about enjoying her high-risk duties.
While the job demands rigorous physical, mental, and medical requirements, she admitted that it was the initial attachment process that posed the biggest challenge. She also said that her mental resilience has been key to thriving in the role.
Ephraim also shared that she completed intensive army training despite suffering a fractured leg and a hip.
