The High Commission of India in Eswatini celebrated the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 02 Oct 2021, which is also celebrated all over the world as International Day of Non-Violence.
As part of the celebrations, High Commission organized the donation of food packets to 100 children each at Mahwalala Zone-5 Care Point, Mbabane and Little Learners Pre-School, Lozitha.
At the Mahwalala Care Point, Mbabane, High Commission partnered with Illa Pen Boy, an MTN Eswatini Brand Ambassador and a popular musician with a fan following of about 200,000 in Eswatini and famous for his Feed Kids Eswatini Foundation.
The Pre-School event at Lozitha was carried out in coordination with Vuka Lozitha Cooperative, founded by 3 women of the Community. Honourable Member of Parliament from Ludzeludze Inkhundla Vusi Swali joined the High Commissioner at Lozitha.
Children enthusiastically participated in various games and face painting at both venues. High Commission provided stationery, paints, and played things to the children. In her interaction with kids, High Commissioner highlighted the influence of Mahatma Gandhi on Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr. and how Mahatma Gandhi devoted his life to working for dignity and equality for all people, protecting the environment, and promoting peace in the community.
In 2020, High Commission partnered with the Ministry of Tourism & Environmental Affairs, Department of Forests as well as Mbabane Municipal Council and planted trees at Coronation and Selection Parks in Mbabane as part of Gandhi Jayanti and Eswatini Government’s ‘Plant a Tree and Save the Environment Campaign’.
High Commission went on live later in the evening with a lecture on “Mahatma Gandhi’s Global Pursuit for Truth, Nonviolence, and Peace” by Dr. Shobhana Radhakrishna, internationally acclaimed Speaker on Mahatma Gandhi on its social media platforms. High Commission had also widely publicized a special video of the Indian Council for Cultural Relation entitled “Yugpurush Mahatma’s Mahatma”.
