Mbabane: His Majesty King Mswati III has appointed Cleopas Dlamini as the new prime minister of the country, replacing Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini, who died in December last year.
The position of the prime minister in Eswatini has been vacant and Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku was acting prime minister from 13 December 2020 until 16 July 2021 following the death of Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini.
The King made the announcement at the Sibaya, a public forum where he had called the nation. Dlamini was previously Chief Executive of the Public Service Pension Fund.
This happens at a time when the country is faced with political unrest, where the people are protesting calling for an elected prime minister.
