Mbabane: As part of promoting domestic tourism and observing September as a tourism month, Mahamba Gorge has joined other hotels and accommodation areas across the country by dropping accommodation prices by 30 percent for the month of September.

This comes as good news for tourists who want to explore the Kingdom of Eswatini especially in the Shiselweni Region. Worth noting is that other accommodation areas have dropped down their prices by 50 percent.

The price drop comes after the launch of the domestic tourism campaign dubbed “A Wonder Awaits You, Explore It” by Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA) which has seen many accommodation areas dropping their prices.

The Independent News spoke to Mzwakhe Khumalo, who is chairman of the board of trustees, who explained that the reason behind dropping the prices was to promote domestic tourism in line with the theme for this year’s tourism which says “Domestic Tourism for Rural Development.” He said most of the profits generated are invested back to the community as to many developmental projects as part of Corporate Social Investments (CSI).

Mahamba Gorge is the second largest gorge in Africa and remains a paradise of nature nestled along the Mkhondvo River which connects two mountains which are in between Eswatini and Piet Retief or Mkhondo being the nearest South African town.

In between the mountains is the Mkhondvo River with a cascading waterfall. This river flows from the Republic of South Africa all the way to Mozambique.
