Mbabane: The country continues to experience a surging number of COVID-19 cases, and the rate of the virus spread seems to be gaining momentum each day.
According to the COVID-19 daily reports from the ministry of health, over the past 5 days since July 11, 2021, the country has recorded about 823 COVID-19 positive cases. The number of deaths recorded in the same period is 11.
According to the reports, the higher number of daily cases recorded was on July 14, 2021, where the country recorded about 209 COVID-19 positive cases after 871 tests were conducted. 204 positive cases were recorded on 15 July after 983 tests were conducted, 200 cases recorded on 13 July where 1 330 tests were conducted, 162 confirmed cases on 12 July where 1 005 tests were conducted, and 48 cases were recorded on 11 July after 410 tests were conducted respectively.
The daily reports released on July 15, 2021, show that the country recorded a total of 20 693 confirmed cases and 698 deaths since the virus was discovered.
As of July 15, 2021, the country has 1 410 active COVID-19 cases, with 153 patients admitted.
The reports also show that the Manzini Region continues to have the highest number of recorded cases, with 8270 followed by Hhohho with 8095 while Lubombo has 2446 and Shiselweni at 1882.
With a population of about 1,3 million people in Eswatini, as of July 15, 2021, the country has 37 997 people who have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. About 22 072 people have received their first and second dose of the vaccine.
On Thursday the Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosie announced the country was expecting 24 000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in the coming week. The minister said the vaccine will be given to all those who were due to receive their second doses, and then roll out the first doses for those aged 50 and above including the remaining elderly. She said the country also expects to receive 165 600 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine from the COVAX facility.
The ministry of health continues to warn people that there was a notable increase in the daily number of confirmed cases hence the country was experiencing a third wave. The public is always urged to adhere to all regulations to prevent a possible spread of the virus. The government has since implemented a curfew that prohibits movement from 6 pm until 5 am.
The Ministry continues to urge the public to continue adhering to all health measures given by the ministry of health and the World Health Organization which includes washing hands with running water and soap, avoid unnecessary movements, practice social distancing.
