Mbabane: Acting Prime Minister, Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku says the country is still expecting to receive a batch of AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines from the COVAX facility before the end of this month.
Speaking during the press conference on Thursday, Masuku said the Government of Eswatini continues to vigorously pursue additional vaccines to reach all emaSwati and achieve herd immunity.
He added that the country is also in line to receive the first batch of 500 000 vaccines from Oxford AstraZeneca before the end of this month to continue with the rollout of the vaccination exercise.
Masuku warned all those who have taken the vaccine that this does not give them the leeway to drop their guard, he said while the vaccine protects against severe illness and possible death from COVID-19, it does not protect one against getting infected.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health Dr Simon Zwane said the country was capacitated to store Pfizer vaccine as it requires a certain storage.
Pfizer vaccines needs to be kept extremely cold: minus 70 degrees Celsius.
Dr. Zwane said the country have one (1) special refrigerator which is capacitated to store about 100 000 doses of Pfizer vaccine and two (2) more refrigerators were still on the way.
Zwane said Pfizer has designed its own packaging to keep doses super cold with dry ice, so that they can be stored for a few weeks without specialized freezers.
