- Jele was among those inmates whose remaining sentence was less than six (6) months
Mbabane: Former Eswatini Royal National Airways Corporation (ERNAC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charles ‘Ace’ Jele is among those who benefitted during His Majesty’s Royal Pardon and he walked out of prison.
To mark His Majesty King Mswati III’s 53rd birthday this year, the King had pardoned a sizeable number of offenders from His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) facilities.
Independent News has reliable learnt that Jele was among those inmates whose remaining sentence was less than six (6) months as those were the inmates who benefitted from the Royal Pardon.
A close relative to Jele, who elected to comment on anonymous condition confirmed Jele’s release from Sidwashini correctional facility. The relative who is a niece to Jele said he went to ferry his uncle from prison on Monday following His Majesty’s notice on Sunday afternoon.
The notice was issued by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Pholile Shakantu on behalf of the King on Sunday afternoon.
Jele was sentenced to five years in prison without a fine option in September 2018 after he was convicted of stealing E400 000 from his employer. Principal Judge Qinsile Mabuza suspended two years of the five-year sentence on condition he pays back the money. This effectively meant that Jele was supposed to be in jail for three years and that period was to elapse in September 2021. Since he was left with six (6) months in prison he benefitted from the King’s Pardon.
