- 2017 and 2018 Primary Teacher’s Diploma graduates who are not yet employed
- SNAT welcomes the announcement and says they were looking forward that government will hire all of the teachers.
Mbabane: The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) is calling upon all 2017 and 2018 Primary Teacher’s Diploma graduates who are not yet employed to submit their academic qualifications to the commission on Friday April 15, 2021.
In an announcement issued by the commission’s Executive Secretary, Ncamsile Sdudla Mtshali on Thursday, the graduates who are called to submit their certificates are those who graduated from Ngwane Teachers’ College, William Pitcher Teachers’ College and Southern African Nazarene University (SANU) in the aforementioned years.
In as much as the number of teachers who will be hired could not be ascertained, it is worth noting that those who will be hired will add to the recently 1 192 teachers who were engaged by TSC the previous week.
This comes after there has been a public outcry by thousands of graduate teachers who are not employed yet they graduated many years ago. In the past few weeks, the public has been complaining that the TSC has hired people who completed in 2019 while they are those who graduated in 2017 and 2018 but still unemployed.
Swaziland National Teachers Association (SNAT) Secretary General (SG) Sikelela Dlamini said as the teachers’ union, they welcome the announcement and they were looking forward to the government to hire almost all of this teachers.
He said he was pleased to see such developments following their meeting with the acting head of government, Senator Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku a couple of weeks ago. He said hiring of teachers was one of the issues that were deliberated in their meeting hence this announcement.
Dlamini said he was aware that this teachers might not be hired on permanent basis but they will be on contracts. He said that in as much as the contracts were not enough but they appreciate it as it shows the willingness of the government to make lives of the graduates better. He said as time goes by they will then engage the government to create permanent posts for the teachers.
He said hiring this teachers will help in reducing the ever increasing unemployment rates in the country.
