Mbabane: True to its brand promise, Standard Bank Eswatini has contributed E1.5 million towards the rehabilitation of a female ward at Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) hospital.

The ward was handed over to RFM by Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mvuselelo Fakudze on Monday March 8, 2021 in the presence of Eswatini Nazarene Health Officials.

The ward hand over event was part of Standard Bank Eswatini International Women’s Day commemoration.

The fully refurbished ward worth E2.9 million is part of joint efforts by Standard Bank and the Resource Mobilization Committee (RMC). The resource mobilization committee contributed E1.4 million to the project.

The project is part of the banks Corporate Social Investment (CSI) under the health pillar. This is to show the bank’s commitment to gender equality, challenging negative gender stereotypes in the workplace and celebrating women’s achievements.

The ward was closed in 2019 after numerous media reports that the ward was unfit for human health, due to its closer over 100 woman were unable to access health care services and chronic illnesses.

Making his remarks during the handover, Standard Bank Eswatini (CEO) Mvuselelo Fakudze said the bank undertook to assist in the rehabilitation of the female ward after media reports of its dilapidated state.

The rehabilitation project commenced in 2020 through partnership with Micro Projects which was selected as the project coordinator on behalf of Standard Bank.

Speaking during the hand over, Resource Mobilization committee chairperson Dr. Phil Mnisi said the bank in partnership with the committee saw it necessary to support EmaSwati especially woman who were generally the most disenfranchised in the Kingdom , by contributing towards the rehabilitation of the female ward and restoring it to full working capacity. Mnisi also thanked Micro Projects for ensuring the implementation of the project on the ground.

Through various community interventions, Standard Bank effective community re-investment will further reinforce values and achieve our business objectives.
