Mbabane– Thirty-one Botswana Defence Force (BDF) officers are in the Kingdom for a Senior Command and Staff Course study tour hosted by the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF).
The delegation, led by Colonel K.M. Seko, arrived in Eswatini on Saturday, September 12, 2026, and includes the Deputy Defence Attaché to the Kingdom, Dean of Academics, members of the Directing Staff and student officers.
The officers have been exposed to different aspects of the Kingdom as part of the study tour, including attending the Shiselweni Reed Dance ceremony, where they joined Their Majesties and thousands of emaSwati. The ceremony concluded on Sunday.
Their formal programme started on Monday, September 14, with Colonel Seko paying a courtesy call to UEDF Commander General Moses M. Fakudze.
The delegation was later addressed through the UEDF Training Establishment Commandant, Major General Sotja M. Dlamini, who welcomed the BDF officers and highlighted the importance of the study tour.
Major General Dlamini said the visit presented the student officers with an opportunity to gain practical knowledge from Eswatini’s people, systems and experiences.
“This is an opportunity for you to learn directly from the people, systems and experiences of the Kingdom of Eswatini,” he said.
He said the experience would provide the officers with practical insights that could contribute to strengthening their respective defence forces.
Major General Dlamini encouraged the delegation to pay close attention to the information presented during the study tour, seek clarification where necessary and establish meaningful professional connections and relationships.
The delegation is expected to tour selected places of interest in Eswatini during its stay before returning to Botswana on Saturday.
The visit forms part of the BDF Senior Command and Staff Course, giving the student officers an opportunity to gain exposure to defence-related systems and experiences outside Botswana as part of their course.
