Mbabane: Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku on Monday received donations worth about E8.3 million from the Republic of China in Taiwan, SwaziMed and Maloma Colliery.

The donations came in a form of 400 tonnes of rice worth around E8 million from Taiwan, 20 hospital beds worth E200 000 from SwaziMed and 8 hospital beds worth E54 500 from Maloma Colliery.

The rice is expected to feed a total of 50 000 EmaSwati while the hospital beds  will be destined for Lubombo Referral Hospital.

“A strong nation is one which all members of the society have the chance to participate equally and contribute to the attainment of lasting prosperity. Taiwan and Eswatini are of one mind in such belief.”  Ambassador Liang said.

Maloma Colliery presentation was made by Maloma Colliery CEO sengphile Simelane who said the mine once had cases who were admitted at Lubombo Referral Hospital and the community where the mine is situated had cases as well. Simelane said it was for that reason the board saw it fit to make such a contribution as they are also wishing the pandemic to be suppressed.

Sicelo Mkhonta who represented Swazi Med said the donation was in response to the extension at the Lubombo Referral Hospital which needed additional beds. He added that SwaziMed worked hand-in-hand with the government with the construction of the SwaziMed private hospital in Ezulwini.
