Digital tipping platform:Good news for customers, waiters and petrol  attendents

MBABANE –Eswatini has been earmarked to benefit from SA’s Numeral Group digital tipping platform.

Numeral Group is an organisation which is backing the expansion of South African digital tipping platform Tipped.biz as part of its broader strategy to invest in practical fintech solutions that solve real-world challenges across Africa.

As consumers increasingly embrace digital payments and carry less cash, millions of frontline service workers risk losing an important source of supplementary income. Recognizing this shift, Numeral Group invested in Tipped.biz, a locally developed platform that enables customers to tip instantly using personalised QR codes and the banking applications they already use every day.

Rather than developing another payment product, Numeral saw an opportunity to address a growing challenge with technology that is simple, accessible and designed to scale across the continent.

“The reality is that people are carrying less cash than ever before,” says Dave van Niekerk, CEO of Numeral Group. “Whether you’re filling up your vehicle, staying at a hotel, parking your car or enjoying a meal at a restaurant, people still want to reward exceptional service—they just don’t always have cash in their pockets. We saw that as an opportunity to create a solution that benefits both consumers and service workers.”

The platform is already being rolled out across South Africa, allowing customers to reward exceptional service quickly and securely without needing physical cash. For Numeral Group, however, the opportunity extends far beyond the local market.

The company believes the challenges addressed by Tipped.biz are shared across much of Africa, where digital payment adoption continues to accelerate while traditional cash-based tipping becomes less common.

“Our philosophy has always been to invest in businesses that solve practical problems,”  “Tipped is exactly that. It addresses a genuine market need while creating meaningful economic opportunities for service workers. We believe the platform has significant potential across Africa, and we’re excited to take what we’ve built in South Africa into new markets.”

Botswana and Eswatini are among the countries being considered as part of the platform’s regional expansion strategy, reflecting Numeral Group’s long-term commitment to developing African technology for African markets.

The investment aligns with Numeral Group’s broader vision of identifying scalable businesses that combine innovation with measurable economic impact. By supporting entrepreneurs who solve everyday challenges, the group aims to build solutions that improve lives while strengthening Africa’s growing digital economy.

“We’re incredibly optimistic about Africa,” Van Niekerk adds. “Some of the world’s most exciting innovation is happening on this continent. Our ambition is to continue investing in businesses that improve everyday life, empower communities and demonstrate that African companies can build world-class technology with global potential.”

As digital adoption continues to reshape economies across Southern Africa, Numeral Group believes the future belongs to businesses that simplify everyday experiences while delivering meaningful value to the people they serve.

For Numeral Group, Tipped.biz represents more than a digital tipping platform—it demonstrates how locally developed innovation can solve uniquely African challenges while creating opportunities that scale across borders. It is another step towards building practical technology that empowers communities, supports economic participation and showcases Africa’s ability to produce world-class fintech solutions.
