Taipei – Imports from Eswatini to the Republic of China (Taiwan) have increased by 78 percent since the two countries signed the Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA) in 2018.
This was revealed by Taiwan’s Minister of Economic Affairs Ming-Hsin Kung during a bilateral meeting with Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo, who was in Taiwan following his participation in the 30th Anniversary of the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF).
Kung indicated that the major import products from Eswatini are sugar, handicraft and beef. He also pointed to the signing of the MoU between the two countries on the development of the Buy Eswatini digital platform.
The meeting formed part of a series of bilateral engagements Khumalo held with leading companies and government ministries in Taiwan, where he presented investment opportunities available in the Kingdom and reaffirmed the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations, consistent with the Joint Statement on “Investing in Resilience and Prosperity: Digital Innovation for a Sustainable Future.”
Among the companies the Minister engaged was YAGEO Corporation, whose CEO David Wang spoke on the company’s commitment to providing innovative and dependable electronic solutions. Its product lines include LAN magnetics, resistors, temperature sensors, limit switches and inductors, which are integral to the manufacturing of diverse electronic products.
Khumalo also met Leezen Company President Glendy Lee, who outlined the firm’s specialisation in organic products and its support for organic farming. The company promotes sustainability through the use of 100 percent biodegradable bags and continues to import handicrafts from Eswatini for distribution in Taiwan.
Jia Bang Smart Investment presented its development strategy for the Taiwan Industrial Innovation Park (TIIP), focusing on infrastructure development. The plans include establishing an essential oil company, a bio pharmaceutical initiative and a solar storage project in partnership with Blue Energy Company, which specialises in renewable energy solutions.
Representatives of Green Harvest Company outlined their expertise in renewable energy, smart grid technology and energy storage facilities, offering solutions that align with Eswatini’s sustainability and energy resilience goals.
