Mafutseni — Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old male from Bhunya in connection with the alleged murder of his 33-year-old maternal aunt.
The arrest follows an intensive investigation launched after the woman’s sudden death was reported to police on August 4, 2026. She had reportedly been rushed to hospital after falling ill and later died.
An inquiry docket was opened, and a post-mortem examination was conducted on August 6 after police raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to police, the post-mortem established that the deceased had ingested a poisonous substance, prompting the matter to be treated as a murder case.
Further investigations allegedly linked the teenager to the death, leading to his arrest and subsequent charge. Police have not yet established the motive, as investigations remain ongoing.
