An estimated E18.2 million in cash and 251 cattle were presented to His Majesty King Mswati III during the grand Gifts Day (Tetfulo) celebrations held at the Mandvulo Grand Hall, Lozitha Palace, marking his 40 years on the throne and 58th birthday.
The event drew scores of emaSwati, corporates and organisations, all bringing a wide range of gifts in a show of loyalty and appreciation. Guests streamed into the venue ahead of the presentation, with contributions ranging from livestock to cash and other items.
In his speech while accepting the gifts, His Majesty highlighted a notable shift in participation, pointing out that the youth are now actively taking part in Tetfulo. He said in the past, the event was largely attended by older people, but this has since changed.
The King described the growing involvement of young people as a positive sign for the country’s future, emphasising the importance of unity in sustaining the event.
“It is important to work together to make this event a success,” said the King, drawing a comparison to bees that collectively gather nectar to produce honey, which they ultimately share.
He further reflected on how Tetfulo has evolved over the years, noting that in earlier times, contributions were mainly limited to cattle and traditional items such as wooden platters. Today, however, the nature of gifts has diversified significantly, with people now presenting a variety of items, including substantial monetary contributions.
His Majesty observed that the financial contributions continue to grow each year. He revealed that this year’s cash donations were nearing E20 million and could increase further. When combined with other gifts, the total value surpasses E25 million.
“This shows that the country has really developed,” he said, adding that such progress is also visible through infrastructure development and the country’s participation in international programmes.
The King expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed, stressing that the significance of the gifts lies not in their size but in the spirit in which they were given.
“It does not matter how much one gives, what matters is that it comes from the heart,” he said.
Leading the monetary contributions was Montigny Investments, which presented a cheque worth E2 million. Inyatsi Construction Group Holdings followed with E1.5 million, while other corporates and individuals also made notable contributions, adding to the overall total.
