MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has bid a warm farewell to Amina Mohammed, the outgoing Resident Representative of UNICEF Eswatini, as she retires from her post.
The farewell took place at the Private and Cabinet Office in Mbabane, where the Head of Government met Ms Mohammed to mark the end of her tenure in the Kingdom.
Addressing the gathering, Dlamini said, “Good evening, Eswatini. Today, I bid a warm farewell to Ms. Amina Mohammed, UNICEF Eswatini’s Resident Representative, as she embarks on her retirement.”
He spoke on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, conveying appreciation to Ms Mohammed and the broader UNICEF family for their service to the country’s children. “On behalf of His Majesty’s Government, I conveyed our sincere appreciation to Ms. Mohammed and the entire UNICEF family for their dedication to the welfare and protection of our children,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that the partnership between Government and UNICEF has advanced child focused social protection programmes while reinforcing national systems designed to protect vulnerable communities across the country. He pointed to collaborative efforts that have strengthened structures responsible for safeguarding children and families facing hardship.
Special recognition was given to UNICEF’s support to the National Disaster Management Agency during the COVID 19 pandemic. The Prime Minister said the cooperation between the agency and UNICEF helped the country respond effectively at a time when lives and essential services were under threat.
“I also commended UNICEF’s critical support to the National Disaster Management Agency during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped us protect lives and sustain essential services during a challenging time,” he said.
Dlamini further commended UNICEF for its continued commitment to the welfare and protection of children in Eswatini, describing the relationship between Government and the United Nations agency as strong and productive.
As Ms Mohammed steps into retirement, the Prime Minister extended his best wishes and encouraged her to continue contributing her expertise beyond the Kingdom’s borders. “As Ms. Mohammed enters retirement, we wish her well and encourage her to continue sharing her invaluable experience for the benefit of Africa,” he said.
