Lobamba – Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick Khumalo has publicly accused Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini of being obsessed with him, alleging that the Premier has been falsely portraying him as the architect of political efforts to unseat his government.
The accusation emerged during the Debate of the quarter performance report of the Prime Minister’s Office, where Khumalo dismissed claims that he was behind the motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister.
Khumalo told the House that he had at no point drafted or sponsored the motion, insisting that it was Hhukwini MP Alec Lushaba and Mbabane East MP Welcome Dlamini who tabled it.
“I did not at any point draft the vote of no confidence that has been attributed to me. Whilst it was moved by Honourable Alec Lushaba and Honourable Welcome Dlamini,” Khumalo said.
The MP claimed that the Prime Minister had become obsessed with him by repeatedly blaming him for political developments in Parliament and creating what he described as false narratives regarding his role.
According to Khumalo, the Premier had unfairly painted him as the mastermind behind attempts to challenge his leadership, despite that there is no basis for such allegations.
“The Prime Minister is obsessed with me,” Khumalo charged, maintaining that the accusations leveled against him were unfounded.
Responding to the allegations, Prime Minister Dlamini rejected Khumalo’s claims, saying he held no personal grievance against the legislator.
The Premier told Parliament that he had nothing against Lobamba Lomdzala MP and would not be drawn into the allegations made against him.
Contributing to the debate, Deputy Speaker Madala Mhlanga said Parliament and the Executive needed to maintain open lines of communication, arguing that legislators should be able to engage directly with the Prime Minister on matters of national importance.
Mhlanga said Members of Parliament should have access to the Prime Minister, just as the Premier should be able to reach out to legislators whenever pressing issues arise.
“As parliamentarians, we should have access to the Prime Minister and vice versa. If there is any burning issue, the Prime Minister should reach out to us, and we should not hear things coming from the back,” Mhlanga said.
